2019 - Azola - LILIBOX: LITTLE LIQUEFACTION BOX [Laureate]
LILIBOX SOLUTIONS BY AZOLA
LiLiBox Solutions by Azola is a spin-off of ENGIE GNL research center and Storengy. It provides a polishing, liquefaction and storage system to free biomethane producer from gas grid congestion and optimise their production.
The innovation : LILIBOX - LITTLE LIQUEFACTION BOX
LiLiBox - Lille Liquefaction Box is a temporel storage system that allows biomethane producers to valorise their entire annual production without any constraints from the network.
The system is an 8m x 18m platform with:
- An innovative and unique biome thane purification-liquefaction process
- A liquidités biomethane storage system
- A system of vaporization and reinjection of the liquid biome thane in the grid.
The unit operates autonomously and is designed in a modular and transposable way so that is can be easily moved and connected throughout its life.
The absence of a rotating machine considerably reduces maintenance costs (less than 5k €/year) electrical consumption (power required less than 5kW in peak load) and CAPEX.
This solution makes it possible to make the system profitable in less than 6 years for a biomethane producer with annual losses of less than 10%: This allows thanks to a novel approach using a cold medium liquid nitrogen, in place of conventional systems using compressors and turbines.
The flow rates are between 100 and 1000 Nm3/h and storage size of liquid biomethane typically correspond to 2 weeks of full production of the biogas plant. The storage pressure of the liquid biomethane, in its current version, is between 1 and 12 bar and the pressure range of liquefied biome thane input is between 3 and 12 bar.
